Master’s programme in Semiotic of the University of Tartu

 

We are glad to anounce the Master’s programme in Semiotic of the University of Tartu. The university offers an international Master’s programme in Semiotics that focuses on the study of meaning-making, communication, and sign systems across culture, society, and nature. From this academic year onward, the programme is tuition-free for students from EU and EEA countries. For applicants from outside the EU and EEA, the programme has a tuition fee. Each year, two students per programme are eligible for a 25% tuition fee reduction, starting from the spring semester. Students benefit from:

A solid grounding in the history, theory, and methods of semiotics, in-depth specialisation in three branches of semiotics: semiotics of culture, sociosemiotics, and biosemiotics, with the flexibility to focus on one or combine several areas, a wide choice of elective courses, including topic- and author-focused seminars, courses taught by visiting professors, and classes exploring emerging research directions, strong analytical and interpretative skills applicable both in academia and beyond.

Graduates develop strong analytical and interpretative skills applicable in research, cultural and creative sectors, media and communication, education, and beyond. Founded by Juri Lotman, the Department of Semiotics is a Leading international centre for semiotic research and education, offering complete bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programmes.
