Se i Due amici, esemplificano, vengono inizialmente chiamati \u201cmonsieur\u201d per indicare il loro \u201cstatus sociale ordinario\u201d, alla fine lo stesso appellativo \u00e8 utilizzato pi\u00f9 specificamente per indicare un \u201criconoscimento del proprio valore\u201d. La risemantizzazione \u00e8 dunque l\u2019altra faccia della desemantizzazione, che implica invece una perdita o un\u2019elisione di alcuni sensi in \u201cfavore di un\u2019unita discorsiva pi\u00f9 ampia\u201d. Gli esempi citati nel Dizionario sono l\u2019espressione \u201cammazzare il tempo\u201d \u2013 in cui il verbo perde alcuni dei suoi significati \u2013 o l\u2019idea di \u201cannodarsi la cravatta\u201d, in cui interi sintagmi gestuali sono appunto desemantizzati (analogamente a quanto avviene, si ricorda, con la catena di montaggio).
